Global Intergenerational Week 2025
The overall purpose of the AIIP is to re-connect communities through the development, implementation and evaluation of intergenerational programs. Our long-term vision is for intergenerational interactions and programs to be a normal part of our everyday life in both formal and informal settings. Being country lead for Global Intergenerational Week is great way to achieve our vision. Being a part of GIW is easy and fun!

International Webinar and Expert Panel Discussion
Creating intergenerational spaces and communities: Successes and challenges from around the world.
In alignment with GIW25 Day 4 Theme: Let’s create intergenerational spaces and communities, AIIP is hosting an online webinar in collaboration with GenLab Collective (Singapore); Generations Connect (New Zealand) and Mighty Oaks (Hong Kong).
Hear from our two special guest speakers, international expert Dr Marlane Krasovitsky from WHO, and Intergenerational Housing Researcher and Churchill Fellow Savannah Fisher, as well as local practitioners from our four host countries who share their insights around the successes, challenges and lessons learned. Presentations will be followed by a facilitated Q&A.

We want people of different generations to work together during #GIW25, and to capture this with a cool video! One idea is to make PomPoms together. All you need is some wool and cardboard.
Day 5: Let’s save the planet…together!

Caring for Country
Keep an eye out on AIIP socials for a special video presentation with Indigenous Elder, Uncle Allan and children from Benowa Early Learning Centre.
Enjoy a Walk and Talk Tour with your “grand friends” at your local Botanic Gardens to learn more about local plants and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Check websites for details and bookings.
Day 6: Let’s develop intergenerational workplaces

We are encouraging workplaces to post images and videos that demonstrate and promote age diversity and inclusion, knowledge-sharing across generations, and ensuring that employees of all ages feel valued and can thrive together. Make sure you use the tag#GIW25
Day 7: Let’s improve intergenerational quality and sustainability

Watch out for our recorded presentation about the recently launched AIIP Intergenerational Practice Quality Standards which provide a robust framework for developing and implementing high quality intergenerational programs and a sustainable future for intergenerational practice.

Day 1: Let’s raise intergenerational awareness

Sing and Dance Around the World Virtual Event
We are inviting groups and individuals of all ages to come together for a coordinated song and dance live online event to raise awareness about intergenerational practice. This event is a collaboration between AIIP and Sing High, Sing Low
Further information and registration details to come, as well as links to a backing track and demonstration videos to learn the song and dance in advance.
Day 2: Let’s challenge ageism

Let’s Challenge Ageism Toolkit
We will be creating a toolkit of resources and activities designed to create awareness about ageism, build empathy and understanding about different age groups, and break down ageist attitudes and beliefs. This project is a collaboration between AIIP and Generations Connect NZ
The toolkit will be freely available through our website and distributed to relevant individuals and groups in Australia and New Zealand.
Day 3: Let’s challenge social Isolation and loneliness
- 26 April 2025
Social media campaign
We will be launching a social media and mainstream media campaign to raise awareness about loneliness and social isolation. The campaign will include facts and figures about the prevalence and impact of loneliness and social isolation on people of all ages drawing on research evidence, as well as short videos from experts and people with lived experience about how to address this important issue.

We will be hosting an online webinar and expert panel discussion around success and challenges experienced by organisations from around the world in creating intergenerational spaces and communities.
This event is a collaboration between AIIP, GenLab Collective (Singapore); Generations Connect (New Zealand) and Mighty Oaks (Hong Kong).
This event will include presentations from our invited speaker, Dr Marlane Krasovitsky from the World Health Organization (WHO) and experts from our four host countries, followed by a facilitated panel discussion and an interactive Q&A.

We are reaching out to local organisations and community groups to foster community cohesion through organising and sharing information about intergenerational activities designed to embrace the environment, address climate change and promote ecological sustainability.

We will be hosting a social media campaign encouraging organisations to post images and videos that demonstrate and promote age diversity and inclusion, knowledge-sharing across generations, and ensuring that employees of all ages feel valued and can thrive together.
Day 7: Let’s improve intergenerational quality and sustainability
- 30 April 2025
The AIIP Australian Standards were introduced in February 2025 along with a Self-Assessment Booklet for Intergenerational Practitioners. The booklet is designed to help practitioners assess their program’s alignment with the intergenerational practice standards.
We will leverage this event to create awareness about the AIIP Australian Standards and the Self-Assessment Booklet to encourage practitioners and programs to ensure that intergenerational initiatives are not only effective but also contribute positively to social cohesion and individual wellbeing across generations.
