What does it mean to live well, to age with purpose, connection & joy?

For anyone working to strengthen intergenerational connection, filmmaker Sky Bergman’s documentary Lives Well Lived is a reminder that storytelling is a powerful way to strengthen social ties and belonging across generations. The documentary captures the voices and wisdom of forty remarkable older adults, distilling lessons on resilience, joy, and purpose.

The film embodies the essence of intergenerational practice, creating spaces where empathy and shared experience flourish, and illustrating how storytelling can dissolve stereotypes and strengthen community bonds. Through the film, Sky hopes to inspire people of every age to reflect on how they can cultivate longevity of both health and spirit and to see growing older as a journey to be celebrated.

The Lives Well Lived Intergenerational Project brings the documentary’s ideas to life in classrooms and communities. The project invites high school students to learn about history and life experience directly from older generations. Through joint screenings and interviews, students connect with older adults, exploring what it means to live a life well lived. In turn, older adults interview students, creating a genuine exchange of perspectives. The project encourages students to produce their own short films, memoirs, or creative reflections inspired by these conversations, deepening their understanding of history, empathy, and the shared human experience across generations.
